Installing the software on multiple computers over a network

Can the CD installer deploy the software on multiple computers over a network?

Explanation

Older versions of the installation program do not come with the ability to install the software on multiple computers over a network. However, there are several solutions to achieve the same result. These solutions are listed below. If none of these solutions are appropriate to your situation, we recommend you install the software individually on each client computer.

Note that the latest versions of EdAlive products should come with MSI installers that will enable deployment on multiple computers over a network using group policy.

Solution A

Install the software on one computer and ensure the settings are as you want them. For example, if you are using a network client program that connects to the EdAlive Network Server (such as BRAINtastic!), you may wish to make sure the server IP address is set correctly.

After you are happy with the installation, copy the installation folder to all the other computers on which you want the software. This can be done manually for each individual computer, or automatically using some type of batch process.

Notes

  • On a Windows computer, the installation path will be the “Program Files” or “Program Files (x86)” folder on your system drive. On a Macintosh computer, the installation path will be the “Applications” directory on your system drive.
  • For a network client program that connects to the EdAlive Network Server (such as BRAINtastic!), there is detailed information about customising the client program in the PDF manual included on the CD.

Solution B

If you are a network administrator, you can build your own network deployment installer for many EdAlive products. This process should take approximately 1 hour and can save you many hours work, depending on the numbers of computers on which you want the software installed.

Solution C

If there is an updated version of your product, it may come with an installer that allows the software to be deployed on multiple computers over a network. You can order a replacement CD containing the new network installer.
