Unable to create folder ‘Macintosh HD:Library:Application Support:EdAlive:’ on Mac OS X 10.7 (Lion)

After launching the program you receive the following error:

Unable to create folder ‘Macintosh HD:Library:Application Support:EdAlive:’

This issue is a result of the default files permissions on the ‘Library/Application Support’ folder changing under Lion. The permissions in Lion disallow the application from accessing the files and directories that it requires.

This issue only effects Apple computers running Mac OS X 10.7 (lion) or later.

We are working towards an official release that resolves this issue. Until the release becomes available, there is a work-around that resolves the issue in the majority of cases. The work around is described in the instructions below.

  1. Backup your computer.
  2. Open the Finder and look in the Utilities directory.
  3. Open the application called Terminal.
  4. Copy and paste the following lines into Terminal and press return. Make sure they’re copied exactly as written below. Note that you must run this command as an administrator, and will be prompted to enter your password.

sudo mkdir “/Library/Application Support/EdAlive”
sudo chmod 777 “/Library/Application Support/EdAlive”

If the above work-around does not resolve the issue for you, contact us to obtain a refund.
